Job Description

This is a fantastic opportunity for an Experienced/senior Protection Design Engineer with expertise in High Voltage Systems – Protection, controls and SCADA (up to 500kV) to lead our Engineering Design business in Australia.

The ideal candidate will have experience in the design, development, and implementation of protection, control, SCADA, familiarity with modern digital relays, relay coordination, applications/settings as well as auxiliary supply systems for high voltage networks. Knowledge of Australian utility standards and experience on related projects will be highly regarded.

The successful candidate will take ownership of preparing and delivering a full scope of secondary design for new and brown field sites, including conducting load flow, fault levels, and protection coordination studies, relay application and protection settings, protection and control schematics, SCADA system architecture and auxiliary supply systems.

  • Lead a team of secondary system designers and support multi-disciplinary design and project management teams.
  • Maintain client relationships to support project delivery and engage as a subject matter Specialist.
  • Collaborate closely with internal and external stakeholders to define project goals, establish budgets and develop project schedules.
  • Participate actively in design reviews, risk assessments and quality control processes to ensure design excellence.

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • Proven experience in the design of HV and EHV substation installations, with an expertise in secondary systems design, including Protection, SCADA and auxiliary supplies.
  • Excellent interpersonal and technical skills with the ability to develop and lead design teams and develop strong client relationships.
  • Experience working in digital engineering environments and delivering to local technical standards and guidelines.
  • Commercially minded, with an understanding of business needs and client expectations.
  • Tertiary Qualifications in Electrical / Power Engineering or an Equivalent.
  • NER, CPEng or RPEQ is ideal.

A salary of around $120,000 - $180,000 per year is expected for this position, depending on experience.
