Job Description

We are seeking a Health and Safety professional to join our team. As a Health and Safety Advisor, you will be responsible for ensuring the project complies with current health and safety legislation, IMS requirements and client-specific regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • To guarantee the safety of yourself and those around you by adhering to all relevant health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Be an embodiment of Living Incident Free Everyday (LIFE) principles by consistently promoting a positive safety culture.
  • Understand and sign up for every RAM and SOS briefing prior to commencing work.
  • Show respect for colleagues and members of the public at all times.
  • Hold the necessary qualifications and training to perform the role safely and effectively.
  • Report and investigate all near misses, incidents or accidents in a timely manner.
  • Maintain a clean and tidy work environment by enforcing good housekeeping practices.
  • CARRY OUT AND ENFORCE H&S POLICY TO CREATE A SAFE WORKPLACE.
  • Use mobile devices only in designated areas and ensure safe usage.
  • Ensure all personnel wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Adhere to no smoking policy except in designated areas.
  • Handle COSHH materials responsibly and follow proper storage and disposal procedures.
  • Avoid operating plant or equipment unless authorized and properly trained.
Key Performance Indicators
  1. Lead by example and maintain high standards of health and safety performance and behaviour.
  2. Oversee all works undertaken by JGL employees to ensure adherence to health and safety and quality standards.
  3. Comply with health and safety policies, rules and standards set by JGL and clients.
  4. Manage subcontractors effectively to ensure smooth project execution.
  5. Ensure all operatives are informed and aware of potential risks and control measures associated with their work.
  6. Conduct daily site inspections and record findings on standard form JG.S227 H&S Manager's daily report.
  7. Maintain accurate records of site inspections and reports as per JG.S.118 document.
  8. Ensure plant and equipment are used by authorized personnel only after receiving adequate information, instruction and training.
  9. Implement suitable mitigation and training for manual handling activities.
  10. Provide necessary training for operatives where required.
  11. Recognize and reward staff who demonstrate excellent health and safety practices.
  12. Encourage feedback from the team through observation cards and take necessary action.
  13. Complete observation reporting form JGS.167 and display results of observation cards on site using form JG.S.168.
  14. Maintain effective communication with the workforce through posters and toolbox talks.
  15. Challenge substandard health and safety performance and personally intervene when necessary.
  16. Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses promptly and accurately.
  17. Preserve the incident area, interview involved persons and maintain evidence when necessary.
  18. Record briefings, toolbox talks and PPE issued on Mosaic when available.
  19. Reinforce the corporate message that staff have the right to stop work when it may expose employees and others to harm.
  20. Assist in developing emergency procedures including fire, first aid and evacuation, and understand client procedures which may impact successful evacuation.
  21. Support the pursuit of environmental improvement and comply with environmental management plan.
  22. Ensure plant and equipment checks are performed and damage reported to the site manager.
  23. Maintain safe places of work and access routes without risk to health.
  24. Separate plant and pedestrians, adhere to site speed limits and co-operate with health and safety inspectors.
  25. Prioritize workforce safety and compliance with company and client standards, focusing on continuous engagement, observation and enforcement.
  26. Work independently without bias or persuasion from either party.
