This role is a key position in supporting the Community Resilience and Emergency Management Team. As an Aboriginal Partnerships Officer, you will play a vital part in building community capacity, sharing information, and knowledge to empower Aboriginal communities in emergency preparedness and response.

Key Responsibilities
  • Build and strengthen partnerships with Aboriginal organisations, Elders, community members, and key stakeholders.
  • Engage and consult with Aboriginal communities on issues, decisions, and policies that affect them.
  • Support community resilience and emergency management through planning, exercising, and evaluating response, relief, and recovery initiatives.
  • Share knowledge and build community capacity to empower Aboriginal communities in emergency preparedness and response.
  • Assist with high-priority actions and initiatives as directed by the Coordinator, Community Resilience.
Essential Requirements
  • A sound understanding of Aboriginal culture and current social and community issues affecting local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in East Gippsland.
  • An understanding of community development principles and experience in planning for emergencies with communities.
  • Strong communication skills, enabling you to work independently and collaboratively, building respectful relationships with a wide range of people.
  • An understanding of local government roles and functions.
