This is a high-impact role that requires leadership, collaboration, and influence at senior levels. As the Chief Executive Officer, you will lead a dedicated team in regulating the gas and electricity markets in Australia. The Australian Energy Regulator (AER) aims to make energy consumers better off now and in the future.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic leadership and direction to achieve the AER's goals and objectives.
  • Develop and manage the AER's budget to ensure alignment with strategic priorities.
  • Lead and empower the senior leadership team to foster a high-performing culture.
  • Maintain regular contact with the Chair to ensure timely communication of developments.
  • Oversee strategic and operational planning to achieve the AER's approved plan.

About the Role

The AER's CEO performs a critical role in leading and delivering the day-to-day operational aspects of the organization. This includes providing strategic leadership, managing budgets, and overseeing the implementation of the AER's Strategic Plan.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Executive-level management experience and a proven track record of leadership within a dynamic, complex, and multifaceted environment are essential for this role. A strong understanding of government operations, knowledge of Australian electricity and gas markets, and tertiary qualifications in law, economics, commerce, engineering, public policy, or related fields are also required.
