Highly specialized medical professionals are needed to care for pilots and crew members in extreme environments. As a medical expert in aviation, you will discover, prevent, and manage various physiological responses to exceptional environments.
Main Responsibilities:- Conduct thorough medical examinations and provide high-quality care for air and missile crews
- Determine fitness for flying and special duties as well as evaluate living and working environments to detect and control health hazards
- Regularly participate in flying missions to observe and advise on aeromedical issues
- Develop and implement preventive medicine programs, including the education of flight personnel in healthy lifestyles
- Establish procedures for managing casualties in aviation accidents and other disasters
- Provide expert advice on aeromedical evacuation and serve on aviation mishap investigation boards
- Serve as a liaison between flying squadrons and medical services
You must hold a current, active, permanent and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a state or territory of the United States or in the District of Columbia. Additionally, you must possess an aeronautical rating of Flight Surgeon, Senior Flight Surgeon or Chief Flight Surgeon.
