Clinical Nurse Leadership Position

About the Role

This is a challenging and rewarding Clinical Nurse Consultant position, offering advanced clinical leadership, consultancy, research, education, and service planning for Mental Health Emergency Consultation Services (MHECS) in Wagga, Deniliquin, and Corowa.

  • Provide expert consultative services to 32 Emergency Departments, collaborating with MHECS teams based in Wagga Wagga.
  • Lead clinical leadership, supervision, and mentoring for MHECS clinicians to ensure high-quality consultations, advice, assessment, and support of mental health consumers in EDs.
  • Develop complex specialist mental health emergency nursing care and enhance specialist clinical practice and service delivery for effective quality care in EDs.
  • Under domains of Clinical Service and Consultancy, Clinical Leadership, Research, Education, and Clinical Services Planning, develop capacity for safe and effective management of consumers presenting to EDs with mental distress.
  • Partner with consumers and carers, utilising feedback to improve service quality, safety, consumer satisfaction, and deliver education sessions.
Requirements
  • Current Authority to Practice as an RN with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (APHRA), with at least 5 years' experience in acute mental health nursing and holding or working towards postgraduate nursing qualifications in Mental Health.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking, problem-solving, and timely decision-making skills while working autonomously.
  • Excellent understanding of issues related to providing Mental Health Services in Emergency Departments, with capacity to negotiate complex issues with professionals across services.
  • Understanding of capacity building and practice development.
  • Clinical expertise and proven ability to provide clinical leadership in provision and development of clinical practice using evidence-based research.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including written, verbal, and computer skills, and ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to provide consultancy support to nurses and multidisciplinary teams, including medical staff.
  • Current Class C driver's license and ability and willingness to travel for work purposes, which may involve driving long distances within the region.
