Job Opportunity: Media Communications Manager

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Media Communications Manager to join our team. This is a unique opportunity to lead critical media and communications activity in a high-profile government portfolio that directly contributes to the management of Sydney's most iconic public spaces.

The successful candidate will have the ability to shape media strategy, manage high-profile public issues, and drive proactive campaigns and political stakeholder engagement. This role offers a 60/40 split between reactive media inquiries and proactive campaigns, providing a challenging and dynamic work environment.

The ideal candidate will have relevant tertiary qualifications in communications, media, or a related field, as well as proven experience in media and government communications. They will also possess excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with strong emotional intelligence (EQ). Additionally, they will be able to navigate complex ministerial approval processes with confidence.

This is a 6-month contract position with potential for permanent appointment. The successful candidate will be part of a high-performing, supportive team working in a dynamic, outcomes-focused environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage a busy portfolio of reactive media inquiries and proactive campaigns.
  • Deliver clear, strategic messaging across politically sensitive and high-stakes issues.
  • Build trusted relationships with senior executives, ministerial offices, and community stakeholders.
  • Oversee media responses on urgent matters, from public safety incidents to political issues.
  • Partner across multiple divisions including operations, events, marketing, property, and visitor services.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in communications, media, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in media and government communications.
  • Demonstrated issues management capability under political and community pressure.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with strong EQ.
  • Confidence navigating complex ministerial approval processes.
