
Natural Resource Management Specialist

The role of the Conservation Project Specialist is to develop and implement programs and projects that support natural resource management outcomes in North West Queensland.
This specialist will focus on establishing and implementing initiatives to support environmental and heritage outcomes, property planning, land condition monitoring, education, awareness, adult learning, and on-ground works projects across the region.
The successful candidate will work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders including landholders, government agencies, industry groups, Traditional Owners, and conservation groups.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage natural resource management projects by coordinating budget, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting.
- Implement projects through building and maintaining productive partnerships with the pastoral industry, local governments, community groups, government agencies, project investors, and Traditional Owners.
- Identify potential project funding opportunities and develop and submit applications for funding from government, philanthropic, and corporate sources.
- Maintain professional awareness of policy developments and land management practices, providing advice and analysis of emerging issues and opportunities.
- Contribute to the success of the team through positive and flexible contributions to the management and administration of the organization.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Tertiary qualifications and/or equivalent experience in Agricultural or Environmental Science or related disciplines.
- Demonstrated scientific/technical knowledge of concepts, principles, and procedures relevant to natural resource management, particularly weed and pest management.
- Experience in industry extension principles and practices, as well as successfully engaging with and providing capacity-building activities for the agricultural and land management sectors.
- High-level organizational skills to coordinate multiple projects and manage time effectively.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills to communicate complex concepts to various audiences.
- Ability to work autonomously and as an effective team member, meet deadlines, establish priorities, and achieve quality outcomes.
- Capacity to develop and document innovative projects, identify funding opportunities, and set specific objectives in collaboration with partners and stakeholders.
Requirements:
- Ability to take initiative as required and work unsupervised when necessary.
- Sound general knowledge of natural resource management principles, supplemented by one or more specific professional competencies relevant to the Southern Gulf region.
- Travel throughout the region, including significant distances on unsealed roads in remote areas.
