Our laboratory is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Laboratory Assistant to join our team. As a Laboratory Assistant, you will play a vital role in the receipting and processing of specimens, including operation and maintenance of analysers. You will also be responsible for pre and post analytical specimen handling, identification and prioritisation of urgent specimens, filing and storage of specimens and data entry.

About the role

Key responsibilities include:

  • Routine receipting and processing of specimens; including operation and maintenance of analysers
  • Pre and post analytical specimen handling
  • Identification and prioritisation of urgent specimens
  • Filing and storage of specimens and data entry
  • Assisting Scientists in the Lab as required
  • Continuous learning of processing requirements of different types of samples for different tests
  • Staying up to date with processing updates
  • Respond to result, sample requirements and general queries
  • Identifying and resolving problems on at the pre-analytic stage

Requirements

To be considered for this position, you will need to have a great blend of skills, including:

  • Specimen processing and data entry experience
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • The ability to cope and thrive in a busy environment
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and work as a team
  • Understanding the importance of following procedures accurately
  • A willingness to adhere to departmental and organisational policies and procedures
  • Previous laboratory experience and exposure to medical terminology would be desirable, but not essential
  • Certificate III in Laboratory Techniques or Pathology Collection is desirable
