As a senior agricultural specialist, you will be responsible for managing pest and disease in crops to ensure maximum health, quality, and production levels.

Main responsibilities include:

  • Holistic management of a team to achieve departmental and company goals
  • Building relationships with external experts to ensure best practice
  • Creating and implementing seasonal programs, developing procedures and techniques for solving problems and improving efficiency
  • Collecting and analyzing data, samples, and trialing new techniques for effective pest and disease management
  • Managing the Pest and Disease program to ensure pest and disease levels are within acceptable limits and economic thresholds
  • Providing accurate and concise crop health reports to senior management
  • Consulting on best practices for pest and disease management and making recommendations for improvement
  • Liaising with other departments to identify environmental factors affecting crop health and develop or enhance protocols
  • Researching new techniques and bio-pesticides to control pest outbreaks

Requirements:

  • Demonstrated ability to solve pest and disease problems to improve production efficiency
  • Proven experience in implementing strategies to improve IPM, propagation, and growing practices and procedures
  • Hands-on operational experience
  • Strong communication, consultative, and interpersonal skills
  • Proven leadership experience
  • Sound judgement, safety, and quality orientation
  • Well-developed planning and organizational skills
