About us

We provide economic, financial and resource management expertise to the government.

The Commercial Division offers advice on the state's financial assets and liabilities. It oversees the Government's business enterprises, including significant commercial transactions.

Workplace Safety Reform

The Workplace Safety Reform team supports the Minister for WorkSafe and the TAC in delivering a policy agenda and strategic reforms. This includes emerging safety issues, psychological health and sexual harassment reforms, improvements to Victoria's workers' compensation system and regulatory changes to improve workplace safety. The branch works closely with WorkSafe Victoria and other relevant bodies to deliver these commitments.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide leadership and guide the department's position on key issues related to our initiative. Work independently and lead project teams to deliver:
    • practical advice on policy issues for senior management and government stakeholders
    • research on complex public policy issues
    • briefings and policy advice that are timely, accurate, accessible, fit-for-purpose, and support the strategic direction of the work group and department.
  • Communicate with, negotiate and influence internal and external stakeholders on difficult and sensitive issues. Work collaboratively and be effective in co-design.
  • Deliver timely work across multiple priorities and responsibilities, ensuring the project runs smoothly and delivers tangible outcomes.
  • Lead small teams:
    • fostering positive team cultures
    • prioritising and managing workflows
    • managing staff, including providing feedback and supporting career learning and development
    • planning and setting directions for the team's work.

  • Experience in building relationships and working with stakeholders to negotiate and persuade to achieve results.
  • Extensive experience preparing high-quality briefings and advice, including conveying complex issues persuasively and effectively in plain language.
  • Demonstrates responsiveness and experience in providing timely and fit-for-purpose advice and products.
Policy analysis, conceptual and problem-solving skills:
  • Demonstrated capacity to solve complex and ambiguous problems.
  • Experience leading teams to develop and communicate comprehensive policy advice and recommendations that distil evidence and stakeholder perspectives.
  • Leads the development of policy reform opportunities that can deliver tangible outcomes and effective solutions.
  • An eye for detail and ability to interpret and synthesise information.
  • Considers impact of policy to strategic plans, community needs, and complementing programs and policies.
Political and organisational context:
  • Takes into account political and organisational context when advising on key initiatives.
