**Cyber Security Role Overview**

The Department of Home Affairs is responsible for centrally coordinated strategy and policy leadership in relation to domestic national security arrangements, law enforcement, emergency management, counter-terrorism, social cohesion, the protection of our sovereignty, the integrity of our border and the resilience of our national infrastructure.

This position is part of the Cyber Risk Services Branch, which provides the Department's technical cyber security functions. The role involves managing the Department's computer network defence and cyber security incident response plan.

As a Cyber Security Analyst, you will be responsible for continually monitoring, triaging, analysing and responding to alerts at all hours. You will assist in collating threat information from various sources to create departmental-specific intelligence that supports incident detection and risk calculation.

This is a tier one incident response service role, where you will enact, document and manage responses to security incidents. You will be the first point of escalation on shift and work closely with all levels of management.

**Key Responsibilities:**

- Responding to events and incidents using established Standard Operating Procedures

- Escalating complex incidents requiring technical analysis to Senior Cyber Security Analysts

- Receiving and logging tasking, intelligence, alerts and information from internal and external sources

- Assessing and triaging cyber event and incident information for action by responsible teams

- Providing a tier one incident response service

- Documenting and logging incident response activities

- Providing statistical reporting on incident response activities

- Engaging with Subject Matter Experts to affect response activity

- Contributing content and information to the threat information database forming the cyber intelligence picture for the Department

**Requirements and Qualifications:**

- Sound stakeholder relationship skills

- Ability to follow SOP and instructions

- Ability to quickly gain knowledge of a range of technologies

- Good communication skills

**Mandatory Requirements:**

- Knowledge in at least one ICT field of expertise, e.g. networks or Midrange

**Desirable Qualifications:**

- Tertiary ICT and Cyber Security qualifications

- 1+ years of experience in ICT or Cyber Security related fields

- Knowledge of the Information Security Manual (ISM) and cyber security concepts

- Understanding of gateway and ICT security technologies
