Senior Commercial Lawyer

This is a mid-senior level legal role within the in-house legal team of a major Victorian government department. The team provides legal advice on major commercial and ICT procurements, high-value projects, outsourcing arrangements, and shared services. Additionally, they advise on technology, privacy, data and cyber security, real estate and property across various asset classes, employment, IR, IP, and intergovernmental agreements, policy, law reform and program delivery.
The successful candidate will provide high-level legal advice on complex procurement and contractual issues, draft, review and negotiate commercial and ICT related agreements, advise on privacy, data governance, cyber security, employment, and intergovernmental agreements, deliver strategic legal support to senior stakeholders, contribute to ministerial briefings and decision-making, and contribute to organisational improvement and legal capability-building across the department.
Key Requirements- A minimum of 4 years post-admission experience gained in a private practice, in-house or public sector environment in a non-contentious area of practice such as corporate/commercial IT, banking & finance, property, construction or employment
- The ability to work independently on complex legal issues, provide authoritative advice, and communicate effectively with internal stakeholders
- Experience or an interest in technology, data, cyber or privacy issues
- Excellent drafting, analytical, and research skills
- A high-performing but collegiate legal team with excellent mentoring
