Forestry Data Scientist Opportunity

This is a full-time, fixed-term position based on the Hawkesbury Campus. Travel to other campuses may be required.

Main Responsibilities:
  1. Developing and implementing data-driven solutions for national forest monitoring
  2. Sourcing ground-based and remote-sensing datasets to support open-data platform development
  3. Collaborating with project partners to establish robust data management practices
  4. Aggregating and integrating diverse datasets for case study areas
  5. Applying machine learning techniques to estimate forest trends and baselines
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. (or near completion) in environmental science, remote sensing, or related field
  • Experience managing large spatial datasets, applying machine learning techniques, and working with open data principles
  • Strong communication skills, including presentation and publication of results
  • Excellent organisational skills and collaborative mindset for delivering impactful outcomes
