Melbourne, Victoria, Australia Swinburne University of Technology Full time
About the Role

The Centre for Forensic Behavioural Science (CFBS) is a leading centre for excellence in forensic mental health and forensic behavioural science research, teaching, and practice development. We are seeking a Research Fellow to join our innovative team to undertake research and assist the research team with the coordination and management of a project examining pathways into young people's use of family violence.

The project takes a mixed-methods approach featuring a quantitative study using existing linked administrative data from Child Protection, Victoria Police, and other services to undertake the first population-based prospective longitudinal analysis of the pathways from childhood maltreatment to Adolescent Family Violence (AFV). Along with a second qualitative study featuring the co-creation of an integrated and trauma-informed explanatory framework of AFV through in-depth semi-structured interviews with young people who have engaged in these behaviours, to inform interventions to reduce these behaviours.

As the Research Fellow, you will support the team of Chief Investigators with overall project administration, set up, and delivery, as well as to conduct interviews and assist with analyses related to the qualitative study.

About You

To be suitable for this role, you will need to have experience in the following key areas:

  • Conducting qualitative and/or mixed methods research/evaluation, independently and/or under supervision.
  • Recruiting participants for research and skills/experience conducting interviews.
  • Analyzing qualitative data using NVivo software.
  • Working with sensitive topics, and with diverse cultural groups, and an awareness of security and ethical issues associated with working with sensitive data.
  • Completing writing tasks to a high standard, including reports intended for a peer-reviewed academic audience.
  • Working both independently and as part of a team in a collaborative manner, with strong communication skills and organisational capacities.
  • Professional liaison with practitioners/service providers in the child and family community service sector.
  • Experience working with at-risk youth populations (e.g., trauma affected, justice-involved, young people displaying harmful behaviours).
Qualifications

To be eligible for this role, you will need to have:

  • A Bachelor degree honours and/or a research masters degree in psychology, social work, or related fields.
  • A professional masters or PhD/doctoral qualification, or working towards a professional masters or PhD/doctoral qualification, in psychology, social work, or related fields.
