
Child Development Support Specialist

We are seeking a Support Specialist to join our clinical team. The role is aimed at individuals with personal lived experience of being assessed and receiving a diagnosis of Autism, who are passionate about providing support to children and young people going through a diagnostic autism assessment.
The Support Specialist will be responsible for supporting and engaging children and young people during the assessment process, considering reasonable adjustments to ensure a positive experience, and providing post-diagnostic support and advice to families and young people.
About the RoleThis is an exciting opportunity to work as part of a specialist clinical team, utilising your personal experience to empower children, young people and families and carers by providing child and family-friendly resources.
You will have the ability to communicate where there are barriers to understanding, and work effectively as part of a team. You must be confident in working and communicating with people, and able to assist individuals to develop recovery and wellness plans.
- Provide support to children and young people during assessments;
- Consider reasonable adjustments to ensure a positive experience;
- Provide post-diagnostic support and advice to families and young people;
- Empower children, young people and families and carers by providing child and family-friendly resources;
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A good level of secondary education;
- Commitment to complete the Peer Supporter Educational Programme;
- Completion of Peer Support Specialist Training or other similar peer support training;
- Completion of Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) training;
- Knowledge of trauma-informed practice and strength-based approaches;
