Job Title: Senior Art Valuation Specialist

At our esteemed fine art valuation practice, we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Art Valuation Specialist to lead our valuations and private sales department. As a seasoned professional, you will be responsible for assessing the condition, quality, and age of objects or collections, as well as researching artists' credentials and previous auction prices.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Assess the condition, quality, and age of objects or collections.
  2. Catalogue items and write detailed condition reports.
  3. Research artists' credentials and previous auction prices.
  4. Consult specialists and historians to verify provenance and authenticity.
  5. Determine the provenance or history of ownership for a work of art.
  6. Assess whether a piece has been restored or repaired, and if so, to what extent.
  7. Understand current market conditions for buyers and sellers alike.
  8. Advise clients on how best to present artwork for sale.
  9. Negotiate prices between buyers and sellers.
  10. Authenticate documents surrounding the purchase or sale.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Art History degree.
  • Minimum 2-5 years relevant experience working in the Australian and international auction industry.
  • Knowledge of Australian tax law and its application to collections within Self-Managed Super Funds (SMSFs).
  • Experience producing AVAA compliant valuation reports.
  • Cultural Gifts Donation valuer, or working towards certification.
  • Strong ability to develop and maintain client relationships.
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
  • Sound time management in meeting internal and external deadlines.
