Achmea Australia is seeking a highly skilled Senior Underwriter to join our Sydney office. As a specialist agricultural insurer, we are dedicated to protecting and enhancing a sustainable future for agricultural communities.

The successful candidate will be responsible for case management of general underwriting of Achmea products, ensuring that the risk profile of existing and prospective clients meets our Risk Appetite statement. This role supports in reaching our targets (growth and loss ratio) in line with our business plan.

Key Responsibilities
  • Underwrite agricultural risks within authority limits for existing clients and potential clients of Achmea
  • Analyse new and renewal business, data, claim history, loss experience, and outcome of liability decisions
  • Prepare policy quotes within authority limits for clients within expected timelines, consulting with Farm Insurance Specialists to review client information and clarify underwriting criteria to formulate quotations
  • Assess and make recommendations on agricultural risks for clients and potential clients of Achmea
  • Ensure accurate underwriting data is captured on systems to minimise risk and ensure high-quality output of information
  • Underwrite, submit, approve or pend coverage amounts and premiums, and present decisions to management
  • Build and maintain supportive relationships with internal and external customers
  • Provide advice/consult with Farm Insurance Specialists, Product Specialist, Client Experience, Claims and Customers, ensuring escalations are dealt with and recorded promptly
  • Provide input into changes to underwriting procedures and processes designed to improve underwriting efficiencies
  • Maintain and distribute insurance updates and competitor information
  • Provide underwriting support to Claims
  • Adopt ownership for designated work as well as a customer-focused and team approach across the Company
Requirements
  • Tertiary qualifications in Agriculture and/or Finance (desirable)
  • 3 years' experience in the financial service industry
  • 3 years' underwriting experience
  • Understanding of rural industry
  • Proven knowledge of general insurance
  • Administrative processes and systems knowledge
  • Excellent customer focus and ability to develop long-term client relationships with a value-added perspective
  • Intrinsically motivated by long-term client satisfaction as opposed to maximising shareholder value
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and meet targets
  • Excellent communications skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to work well autonomously as well as part of a broader team
