The Australian Government invites recent university graduates to join the Data Stream, a 12-month program designed to equip them with the skills and expertise needed to succeed in data-related roles.

This initiative aims to recruit individuals who are passionate about data and eager to contribute to shaping Australia's future through evidence-based decision making.

About the Role

Data roles within the Australian Public Service (APS) and other Commonwealth agencies cover various aspects of Government, including policy development, research, program management, and service delivery.

As a Data Graduate, you will have the opportunity to work on exciting projects across different government departments and agencies, developing your skills in data analysis, engineering, and science.

The types of backgrounds our graduates come from include analytics, actuarial studies, data science or mining, demography, economics, econometrics, engineering, finance, mathematics or mathematical modelling, machine learning, psychology, risk and intelligence analysis, social sciences, and statistics.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the design and implementation of data-driven solutions to support informed decision making
  • Develop and maintain databases, ensuring data quality and integrity
  • Analyze complex data sets to identify trends and insights
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to communicate results and recommendations
Requirements

To be suitable for this role, you will need:

  • Proficient data skills, including knowledge of data analysis and visualization tools
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt to new technologies and methodologies
  • Sound judgment and problem-solving skills

In addition, you must:

  • Be an Australian citizen
  • Have or will have completed a Bachelor degree or higher by December 31st, 2026
  • Have completed your qualification between January 1st, 2022, and December 31st, 2026
  • Be able to obtain and maintain a valid Australian Government security clearance once accepted into the program
