About this role
We are seeking a highly skilled professional to join our team as a Disaster Risk Specialist.
This exciting opportunity will involve working closely with internal and external stakeholders to develop and deliver evidence-based climate and disaster risk information.
The successful candidate will have excellent analytical skills, the ability to think critically, and experience working in an area of applied research and/or disaster management and operational planning or policy context.
In this role, you will contribute to the development and delivery of projects, programs, systems, tools, and policies that help reduce the impact of disasters on the community.
The ideal candidate will be able to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team, and possess strong communication and interpersonal skills.
You will also have the ability to support program delivery and emergency operations across the state, which may include work outside normal hours.
Main Responsibilities
- Support and contribute to the development of climate and disaster risk analysis and enhancement of operational tools and information.
- Profile disaster risk and impacts on operations, analyse information from a range of sources, drawing logical and objective conclusions to provide advice for risk-informed decision making.
- Assist with the delivery and coordination of workshops, meetings, and other activities with internal and external stakeholders.
- Support regional staff and other key stakeholders by providing guidance on climate and disaster risk assessment and management techniques.
- Liaise and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure stakeholder requirements are met and business objectives are achieved.
- Contribute to project deliverables, monitoring and evaluating outcomes against performance targets.
Requirements
- Demonstrated knowledge and/or experience in a relevant discipline e.g. disaster risk science, climate change, geospatial science, social science, emergency management, critical infrastructure or another related field.
- Experience working in an area of applied research and/or disaster management and operational planning or policy context.
