Principal Site Reliability Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Site Reliability Engineer to join our team at CommBank. As a key member of our SRE team, you will be responsible for designing and implementing large-scale solutions, influencing and engaging senior stakeholders on modern best practices for improving reliability throughout the SDLC.
Key Responsibilities- Partner with senior stakeholders to lead a culture of data-driven reliability, monitoring, and automation aligned to SRE principles.
- Design, develop, test, and support applications and systems, with a focus on scalability and sustainability.
- Manage and scale distributed systems in a public, private, or hybrid cloud environment.
- Create and develop tools required to support the operational management (including security) of software applications and systems.
- Identify technology limitations and deficiencies in existing systems and associated processes, procedures, and methods, and develop scalable and sustainable improvements using software engineering principles.
- Expertise in software engineering, with a strong background in at least one programming language (e.g., Golang, Python).
- Strong experience with modern software development practices using tools such as git for source control, and CI/CD tools such as TeamCity, Jenkins, Octopus Deploy or similar.
- Public cloud experience in AWS, GCP, or Azure.
- Experience leading teams of engineers driving outcomes using observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, AWS CloudWatch, Splunk, AppDynamics.
- Extensive knowledge of Linux internals, networking, containers, and troubleshooting.
- Experience applying SRE practices in large organisations and excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
