About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Site Reliability Engineer to join our team at Commonwealth Bank. As a key member of our SRE team, you will be responsible for designing and implementing large-scale solutions, influencing and engaging senior stakeholders on modern best practices for improving reliability throughout the SDLC.

Our team is passionate about SRE and systems engineering, and we are undergoing one of Australia's largest digital transformations. We are looking for someone who is passionate about managing and scaling distributed systems in a public, private, or hybrid cloud environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and implement large-scale solutions
  • Influence and engage senior stakeholders on modern best practices for improving reliability
  • Manage and scale distributed systems in a public, private, or hybrid cloud environment
  • Create and develop tools required to support the operational management of software applications and systems
  • Identify technology limitations and deficiencies in existing systems and associated processes, procedures, and methods, and use software engineering to develop scalable and sustainable improvements
Requirements
  • Expertise in partnering with senior stakeholders and leading a culture of data-driven reliability, monitoring, and automation aligned to SRE principles
  • Deep experience in designing, developing, testing, and supporting applications and systems
  • Strong experience with modern software development practices using tools such as git for source control, and CI/CD tools such as Team City, Jenkins, Octopus Deploy or similar
  • Strong public cloud experience in AWS, GCP or Azure
  • Experience leading teams of engineers driving outcomes using observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, AWS Cloud Watch, Splunk, App Dynamics
  • Extensive and in-depth knowledge of Linux internals, networking, containers, and troubleshooting
  • Experience in applying SRE Practices in large organisations and excellent communication and problem-solving skills
