Job Title: Research Scientist – Australian Institute Of Marine Science

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Research Scientist to join our team. As a Research Scientist, you will be responsible for conducting research in physical oceanography and coastal processes, with a focus on developing and applying numerical models to investigate coastal and shelf-scale hydrodynamic, sediment, and biogeochemical processes.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and apply numerical models of coastal and shelf processes
  • Conduct observational and numerical modeling studies of coastal marine environments
  • Operate and manage ocean observing networks
  • Provide scientific leadership to colleagues, support staff, and students
  • Ensure effective coordination and allocation of resources to address scientific and environmental management challenges
Requirements:
  • PhD in a relevant discipline (physical oceanography, coastal processes, coastal engineering, or marine biogeochemistry)
  • Extensive professional experience in observational and numerical modeling studies of coastal marine environments
  • Professional experience in the operation and management of ocean observing networks
  • Excellent numerical skills related to the analysis of spatial and time series data
  • High level of familiarity with contemporary hydrodynamic, sediment transport, and biogeochemical modeling tools and packages
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative and multidisciplinary research team

  • AIMS AOF Level 6 Salary ($122,110 to $137,599 per annum)

About You:

We are looking for a high performer with a demonstrated track record of scientific output and advanced leadership and project management skills. You should have a strong background in physical oceanography and coastal processes, with experience in observational and numerical modeling studies of coastal marine environments. You should also have excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative and multidisciplinary research team.
