Senior Science Officer

The University of Tasmania invites applications for a Senior Science Officer to support the Integrated Marine Observing System (IMOS). As a key member of the IMOS team, you will play a critical role in advancing our understanding of the ocean and its impact on the environment.

The successful candidate will have a postgraduate qualification in physical or biogeochemical oceanography and extensive relevant experience. You will be an expert in integrating diverse data streams and value-adding to research data. Your strong knowledge of scientific observing and application of data to address important and topical research questions will enable you to drive the development of high-level scientific projects.

As a Senior Science Officer, you will work closely with researchers, universities, and other key stakeholders to facilitate collaborations and partnerships. Your ability to identify scientific opportunities for ocean observing and increase data use and impacts will be invaluable in achieving IMOS's objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Inform and implement science planning for IMOS, including liaison with Facility leaders and the broader research community.
  • Play a leadership role in data integration to value-add to IMOS data streams.
  • Work to maximise the relevance of IMOS by monitoring science performance, identifying and facilitating collaborations or partnerships.
  • Serve as a liaison between the IMOS Office, AODN and Facilities to facilitate work plans and ensure data delivery.
  • Represent and promote IMOS at conferences and workshops, and liaise with researchers, universities, and other key stakeholders.
