Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced finance leader to join our team as the Director of Research Finance. As a key member of our Research, Innovation and Commercialisation (RIC) team, you will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of innovative financial management processes and systems to support the University's research business.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in research finance, with experience in managing research finances in a large complex organisation. You will possess excellent leadership and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with a diverse team to achieve organisational goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and implementation of innovative financial management processes and systems to support the University's research business.
  • Manage the Research Finance team, supervising key operational leaders and developing a long-term service delivery strategy aligned with RIC's strategic direction.
  • Provide operational, compliance, and risk management advice to the Executive Director, ORM, and the CFO.
  • Build effective relationships with key stakeholders, including researchers, faculty members, and industry partners.
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve service-user satisfaction, efficiency, and accuracy of research finance related data.

Requirements:

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline, with an extensive management and supervisory background in a complex organisation.
  • Expert understanding of Australia's research environment.
  • Extensive experience managing research finances in a large complex organisation.
  • Demonstrated experience with the implementation of an ERP Finance System, in an organisation where research is a priority.
  • Strong commercial skills and experience with proven budget and financial management skills.
  • High level of knowledge of relevant legislation, compliance requirements, policies, procedures and systems, and a well-developed understanding of the requirements and importance of effective governance, risk management and compliance.
