Central Coast, Australia Benevolent Society Full time
About The Benevolent Society

We are a non-profit organisation dedicated to building a just society where all Australians can live their best life. For over 200 years, we have supported people at the margins of society, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians, children, young people, and their families, older people, carers, and people with disability.

Our Vision and Values

We remain steadfast in our commitment to promoting the economic, political, and social inclusion of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Our vision is to support people to live life their way, and our values include cultural safety, integrity, and accountability.

The Child and Family Practitioner Role

This role is part of our Family Connect and Support Service, which brings together families, support services, and community resources to prevent difficult situations from escalating to a crisis requiring a statutory response from the child protection system.

Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Conduct initial assessments of family strengths and needs to identify their main goals.
  2. Identify and make appropriate referrals based on the goals, and follow up with services to ensure successful engagement.
  3. Assess and manage child protection risks for families.
  4. Liaise with key stakeholders in the community.
  5. Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all client interactions and related tasks.
Salary and Benefits

The salary for this role is $73,000 - $92,000 per annum, plus superannuation and salary packaging options. We also offer flexible work arrangements, including hybrid home/office options, and accrue an additional day off each month (a bonus of 12 days per year) as a full-time employee.

Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  1. A relevant degree qualification in a related field, such as Social Work or Psychology.
  2. At least 12 months experience working with at-risk children, young people, and/or families in a child protection-focused role.
  3. An excellent understanding of child protection issues and client vulnerabilities, including drug and alcohol use, domestic violence, mental health issues, and the impact of trauma on child behaviour and development.
  4. Excellent IT skills and ability to use technology in service delivery.
  5. Ability to work unsupervised and remotely.
  6. High level of professional accountability and integrity.
  7. Current driver's license.
Becoming Part of Our Team

If you are passionate about supporting vulnerable families and individuals, and want to be part of a team that makes a real difference in people's lives, please submit your current CV and a one-page cover letter outlining your suitability and interest in the role.
