About the Role

This position involves providing high-quality clinical support to individuals affected by sexual violence and children with harmful sexual behaviors.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide confidential, client-focused face-to-face and telephone counseling services for adults, children, young people, and their support networks affected by sexual violence.
  • Monitor client progress and tailor responses considering their diverse backgrounds, attributes, and preferences.
  • Conduct culturally sensitive, trauma-informed intake assessments and provide information about available services, supports, options, referrals, and waiting lists.
  • Collaborate with other organizations to ensure clients access necessary support and reduce the impact of sexual harm.
  • Support victims through legal and medical processes following recent sexual assaults.
  • Perform urgent risk assessments to ensure safety for victims, children, and young people exhibiting harmful sexual behaviors.
  • Provide brief counseling during periods of distress.
  • Maintain accurate client records and files, prepare court reports, and serve as a credible witness when required.
  • Contribute to the planning, implementation, and evaluation of counseling and education programs.
  • Participate in outreach, early intervention, and prevention educational initiatives.
  • Advocate for clients' needs within the organization and promote victims' voices and resilience within the service system.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, counseling, or equivalent, with registration (AHPRA or relevant professional body).
  • Minimum three years of practice experience.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including experience with confidential record-keeping and report writing.
  • Ability to quickly learn Tasmanian and Federal legislation, regulations, and standards related to sexual assault, family violence, and child safety.
  • Commitment to continuous quality improvement, professional development, and reflective practice.
  • Ability to work ethically, autonomously, and collaboratively within a team.
