Queensland Fire and Emergency Services is a leading emergency service agency responsible for ensuring the safety of people and property across Queensland through effective prevention, preparation, response, and recovery activities in various emergency situations.

The agency comprises the Fire and Rescue Service, the Rural Fire Service, and the State Emergency Service, providing comprehensive support to volunteer groups delivering emergency responses to Queenslanders.

Purpose of the Role

The Auxiliary Firefighter role plays a critical part in delivering high-quality fire, rescue, emergency, and disaster management services as part of a single entity in Australia. This collaborative approach improves community safety outcomes by working closely with key stakeholders.

Main Responsibilities
  • As an integral team member, respond promptly to fire and other emergency incidents. Note that Auxiliary Firefighters may participate in all activities related to their designated station except emergency incidents if they have not completed ARTEP pre-operational aspects.
  • Promote community safety and preparedness by actively engaging in community education activities.
  • Develop and maintain competencies through regular participation in drills and relevant training courses provided by QFES to ensure effectiveness on the fire ground.
  • Maintain required attendance standards for emergency incidents and training.
  • Operate specialist firefighting and rescue equipment safely and effectively.
  • Contribute to maintaining the cleanliness and hygiene of station facilities.
  • Ensure proper maintenance and repair of operational equipment and station facilities.
  • Support incident reporting and general station administration as needed.
