Job Summary

The Horticulture Standards Engagement Officer will support the implementation and regulation of the National Food Safety Horticulture Standards for Leafy Vegetables, Melons, and Berries. This role will work closely with industry and grower groups to deliver timely tailored services and resources to support horticulture businesses in preparing for and implementing the Standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver services and resources to support horticulture businesses in implementing the Standards, including registration with the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action.
  • Engage with horticulture businesses, industry, and grower groups to build awareness and compliance with the Standards.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders to promote the Standards and the Department's role as the Victorian regulator.
  • Communicate with horticulture businesses on verification requirements, such as audits and recognition of existing food safety arrangements.
  • Respond to biosecurity incidents and other agricultural emergencies and recovery operations as required.

Requirements

  • A tertiary degree in Agricultural Science, Science, or an equivalent science qualification is desirable.
  • Technical expertise and experience in the horticulture industry and/or regulatory services would be an advantage.

Working Arrangements

This is a fixed-term position available for a period of 2 years. The work location for this position is preferred to be either Greater Melbourne, Ballarat, Bendigo, or Tatura, with hybrid work arrangements available.
