About this Role:

This position serves as a key leadership opportunity within our organisation, focusing on developing and implementing conservation science and species recovery strategies.

The successful candidate will provide intellectual leadership across our scientific priorities and have autonomy to build and grow a research-focused team over time. This may include supervising postgraduate students, early-career researchers, or specialist collaborators.

This role will cultivate a hub of scientific inquiry and innovation, ensuring our conservation strategies are informed by cutting-edge research and best practice.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement strategic plans for conservation science and species recovery, ensuring measurable impact in threatened species recovery and biodiversity restoration.
  • Foster partnerships with universities, government agencies, First Nations organisations, research institutions, and conservation bodies to position our organisation as a leader in applied conservation science.
  • Oversee scientific integrity across all projects, ensuring data-driven decision-making, rigorous monitoring and evaluation, and transparent reporting to stakeholders.

About You:

  • Postgraduate qualifications (preferably PhD) in conservation ecology, zoology, or related discipline.
  • Minimum 10 years' professional experience in conservation ecology, with a preference towards strong field-based experience and subsequent team leadership experience.
  • Proven track record in leading complex, multi-stakeholder science or conservation programs.
