Job Description

We are seeking a Senior Policy Officer to join our team at the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA). This role will be responsible for providing professional support to develop and implement policies related to emergency and disaster management within the Australian Government's crisis management framework.

The successful candidate will work closely with government officials, industry representatives, and other stakeholders to identify emerging issues, conduct research and analysis, and develop policy recommendations that enhance national emergency management capability.

Key Responsibilities
  • Research and draft policy documents, briefs, reports, and correspondence related to emergency management.
  • Collaborate with government agencies, state and territory governments, and industry representatives to develop and implement effective policies.
  • Conduct thorough research and analysis to inform policy development and recommend evidence-based solutions.
  • Maintain awareness of local and global policy developments to identify emerging risks and opportunities.
  • Develop written materials, including ministerial submissions, briefs, and reports, to communicate complex information to various audiences.
Requirements
  • A strong analytical mindset and ability to deliver outcomes under tight timeframes.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with experience developing a range of products, including briefings, minutes, cabinet submissions, and proposals.
  • High-level interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with government officials, industry representatives, and other stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Australia's crisis management and national security arrangements or the ability to quickly acquire it.
