Geospatial Data Manager Role

The Australian Antarctic Division is a key agency for Australia's Antarctic Program.

We are responsible for achieving the Australian Government's Antarctic goals.

Our primary objectives include:

  • Maintaining the Antarctic Treaty System
  • Protecting the Antarctic environment
  • Understanding Antarctica's role in the global climate system
  • Undertaking scientific research of practical significance

This role leads, conducts, and supports scientific research and environmental management.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing high-level mapping and spatial data products
  • Developing long-term curation strategies for spatial collections
  • Overseeing the Australian Antarctic Gazetteer and providing expert advice to the Place Names Committee
  • Leading charting quality efforts
  • Supervising mapping staff and managing performance
  • Collaborating with developers to deliver geospatial information online
  • Representing the organization in national and international forums

This position plays a critical role in advancing scientific research and improving the value of the program.
