Key Role in Diabetes Service Management

The Staff Specialist is an integral part of the Illawarra Shoalhaven Diabetes Service, delivering high-quality clinical management and consultation services to patients with endocrine disorders.

This role involves participation in the after-hours endocrinology on-call roster for ISLHD and providing care for inpatients admitted under Endocrinology, as well as offering endocrinology consultation services for patients admitted under other specialties.

  • Provide a minimum of three outpatient clinics at the Illawarra Shoalhaven Diabetes Service, offering clinic services across the district based on clinical need.
  • Support and advise the rest of the multi-disciplinary team at the Illawarra Shoalhaven Diabetes service, including Diabetes Educators, Dietitians, and podiatrists.
  • Contribute to improving Ambulatory and Primary Health Care (APHC) Outpatient Services and develop broader strategies to address Diabetes care and limited responses to other endocrine diseases across the District.

Supervision of junior staff is required, including the Endocrinology Advanced Trainee and Basic Physician Trainee, as well as junior medical officers and medical students attached to the Endocrinology Team.

The position will be primarily located at the Illawarra Shoalhaven Diabetes Service with in-reach to Wollongong Hospital. Activities and locations will be guided by the agreed Model Scope of Clinical Practice for endocrinology in ISLHD that will be determined at the time of the appointment.
