Senior Project Officer

Our organisation is seeking a highly skilled Senior Project Officer to play a key role in the planning, coordination, and delivery of complex Defence projects. This is an exceptional opportunity to contribute directly to Australia's Defence capability.

  • This senior project officer will be responsible for providing high-level project support across multiple Defence initiatives, ensuring compliance with governance frameworks and Defence policy.
  • The successful candidate will coordinate project planning, scheduling, reporting, and risk management activities to drive project outcomes aligned with national security objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Provide expert project support, working closely with internal stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered within scope, budget, and schedule.
  2. Develop and maintain effective relationships with external stakeholders, including Defence contractors, government agencies, and industry partners.
  3. Identify process improvements and support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance project delivery.
  4. Prepare high-quality briefings, reports, and documentation for internal and external audiences.
  5. Coordinate project performance monitoring and provide strategic advice to senior stakeholders.

About You:

  • To be successful in this role, you will need proven experience in project management or coordination in a Defence or government environment.
  • Strong knowledge of Defence project governance and capability lifecycle is essential.
  • You will possess excellent organisational and communication skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • A high level of integrity, discretion, and commitment to working in a security-sensitive environment is required.

Essential Criteria:

  • Australian Citizenship is mandatory.
  • The successful candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a Defence Security Clearance (NV1 or above).
  • Tertiary qualifications in Project Management, Business, Public Administration, or related field are required.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in a project or program support role is essential.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience using project management tools, such as MS Project, Primavera, Jira, would be advantageous.
  • PRINCE2, AgilePM, or PMP certification is desirable.
