Assistant House Supervisor

This position requires a skilled and dedicated individual to work in a therapeutic care home, supporting the day-to-day leadership and guiding a consistent and trauma-informed care team.

The successful candidate will work alongside the House Supervisor to support daily operations and team functioning within a double-staffed home providing high-intensity, one-on-one therapeutic care to a young person with complex needs and significant trauma history.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in coordinating shifts and providing on-the-ground support to staff
  • Ensure the smooth running of the house and maintain a strong therapeutic focus
  • Step into leadership when the House Supervisor is not present and promote safety, consistency, and reflective practice across the team
  • Work closely with internal teams to ensure care is aligned and well-coordinated

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have experience working in residential care or youth support settings and possess an understanding of trauma, attachment, and child development.

Strong teamwork and communication skills are essential, as well as the ability to remain calm and professional in high-pressure situations.

Additionally, you must be committed to delivering high-quality care and willing to grow your leadership skills under the guidance of an experienced supervisor.

Selection Criteria

  • A knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture and values and an awareness of the current issues faced by Aboriginal children, young people, and their families
  • Demonstrated experience working with children or young people with complex needs
  • Minimum Cert IV in Youth Work, Community Services, or a related field (or willingness to obtain)
  • Understanding of therapeutic frameworks such as TCI, Sanctuary, or neurodevelopmental models
  • Ability to support routines, staff coordination, and household functioning
  • Strong interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence
  • Commitment to professional growth and reflective practice
