Plant Superintendent
Overview of the JobThis role involves overseeing the daily operations of a manufacturing facility. The successful candidate will be responsible for guiding teams to ensure operational excellence in converting, printing, finishing, logistics, prepress, and maintenance while upholding high safety standards, product quality, and cultural engagement.
Key Responsibilities- Safety Leadership: Foster a proactive culture of safety that aligns with company values. Ensure compliance with all regulatory safety and environmental standards. Implement ongoing improvements in team member health and environmental practices.
- Team Leadership: Lead by example with honest communication. Inspire a high-performing team across various functions. Model and promote company values: performance excellence, integrity, and a people-first culture.
- Production Management: Collaborate closely with the Scheduling team to coordinate production processes. Ensure timely delivery of high-quality products. Achieve OTTP performance of 98% or better and OTIF targets of 95% or better.
- Process Improvement: Identify and execute data-driven improvements to maximize productivity, reduce waste, and enhance product quality. Develop systems to ensure employees understand individual, departmental, and organizational objectives.
- Supply Chain Collaboration: Partner with the Supply Chain team to align raw material availability with production schedules. Participate in long-term and short-term demand planning.
- Operational Support: Represent plant operations in cross-functional initiatives and corporate planning. Evaluate and recommend modernization, automation, or equipment upgrades to maximize efficiency and ROI.
- Quality Management: Collaborate closely with the Quality team to maintain high standards. Support continuous improvement through training, competency development, and regular performance testing.
- Reporting & Communication: Provide weekly updates on plant performance, KPIs, challenges, and improvement initiatives. Facilitate open, consistent communication across departments and leadership levels.
- Strategic Support: Participate in annual strategic planning and goal setting. Collaborate with senior management on budget adherence. Mentor, coach, and evaluate managers and supervisors through structured performance reviews and development plans.
- Compliance & External Engagement: Ensure adherence to ISO standards, GMP, and food safety protocols. Represent the facility during audits, plant tours, and industry engagements.
- At least 10 years of progressive leadership experience in paperboard manufacturing, with expertise in offset printing, preferably with Heidelberg equipment.
- Demonstrated expertise with folding carton processes and equipment such as roll sheeting, die-cutting, folder-gluers, and tray formers.
- Proven track record managing high-speed printing systems.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, or related field; Master's degree a plus.
- Strong knowledge of lean manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies.
- Experience managing within ISO-certified operations and related safety/quality control systems.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Manufacturing floor environment with exposure to noise, dust, and production equipment.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting (up to 50 lbs).
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
