About the Role:
This is a remarkable opportunity to become part of the FIS legal team as an experienced Corporate Counsel for the APAC region, supporting FIS' financial technology operations. The business in APAC is rapidly expanding, providing technology solutions that meet the diverse needs of banks, financial institutions, exchanges, and corporations. You will be integral to this growth, working from our offices in Sydney, Australia, alongside the regional executive team. You will collaborate with the APAC legal team and report to the Senior Counsel in Sydney.

Responsibilities:

  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts related to information and technology services, software licenses, and other outsourcing agreements for services and products provided to financial entities.
  • Conduct legal research and analysis on commercial contract law, information technology law, software licensing, payment processing, and data security and privacy.
  • Provide legal advice to business colleagues on software licensing, data security, privacy regulations, and commercial contract disputes.

Qualifications:

  • Must be a qualified lawyer in a common law jurisdiction (Australia/NZ, Singapore, Hong Kong, UK, United States) with a strong undergraduate degree from a reputable university.
  • Ideally, a minimum of 4 years' experience in a reputable law firm or in-house legal department with a solid grasp of corporate and commercial contract matters.
  • Strong professional ethics and a commitment to excellence are essential.
  • Familiarity with drafting technology service agreements, software licenses, and general commercial contracts is preferred.
  • Excellent analytical and advisory skills, with the ability to navigate complex legal issues and provide sound counsel to business stakeholders.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively engage with business stakeholders, external legal counsel, and clients.
  • Proven negotiation skills and the ability to balance company objectives with client needs.
  • Ability to foster effective working relationships with clients, colleagues, and opposing counsel.
  • Capacity to manage multiple transactions simultaneously.
  • Proficiency with technology and the tools necessary for daily responsibilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience or expertise in the financial technology sector or in collaborating with financial institutions on technology-related matters.
