Job Description

Job Title: Special Education Teacher

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Special Education Teacher to join our team at Legal Aid NSW. As a Special Education Teacher, you will be responsible for providing high-quality education to students with special needs, promoting their academic, social, and emotional development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement individualized education plans for students with special needs
  • Provide instruction and support to students in a variety of settings, including classrooms and small group settings
  • Collaborate with other educators, therapists, and support staff to ensure a comprehensive and coordinated approach to student support
  • Assess student progress and adjust instruction to meet the needs of all learners
  • Communicate effectively with parents, guardians, and other stakeholders to ensure a collaborative approach to student support

Requirements:

  • Approval and/or experience in teaching Behaviour Difficulties and/or Mild Intellect Disability and/or Moderate Intellect Disability
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver a differentiated curriculum and quality assessments for learning practices that meet the academic, social, emotional and behaviour needs of the students
  • Demonstrated effective classroom management skills and an understanding of and capacity to manage the needs of students with challenging behaviours
  • Highly developed organisational, communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work proactively and professionally as part of a team, including parent/carers, school learning support officers and the wider school community
