Job Description

Job Title: Special Education Teacher

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Special Education Teacher to join our team at Walgett Community College High School. As a Special Education Teacher, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality education to students with special needs, and contributing to a supportive and inclusive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement individualized education plans for students with special needs
  • Provide instruction and support to students in a variety of settings, including classrooms and small group settings
  • Collaborate with general education teachers and other support staff to ensure a comprehensive and inclusive education for all students
  • Assess student progress and adjust instruction to meet the needs of students with special needs
  • Communicate effectively with parents and guardians to ensure that students receive the support they need

Requirements:

  • Approval to teach special education and/or experience in teaching students with mild intellectual disability, behavior difficulties, and a willingness to teach other subject areas as required by the college
  • Demonstrated experience in planning for and implementing inclusive teaching strategies for students with additional learning needs
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the NSW Curriculum, including the ability to incorporate the teaching of literacy and numeracy skills
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills and experience in establishing and maintaining collaborative relationships with parents, students, colleagues, and the broader school community
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal Education Policy and awareness and understanding of the needs of Aboriginal students, families, and communities
