Job Summary

We are seeking a motivated and self-starting Lead Engineer to join our team in Melbourne, AU.

This role offers the opportunity to lead and contribute to a wide range of municipal water and wastewater engineering projects, driving technical excellence and business growth.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Independently perform complex engineering tasks related to water supply, wastewater treatment, pump/lift stations, sanitary sewer design, and water distribution systems.
  • Support or serve as Project Manager on various municipal water and wastewater projects, ensuring timely delivery and quality outcomes.
  • Lead and conduct technical reviews of engineering deliverables such as construction drawings, technical specifications, and hydraulic modeling reports, providing expert feedback and guidance.
  • Makes informed design decisions that align with project goals and regulatory requirements for drinking water systems and wastewater infrastructure.
  • Proactively identifies and resolves technical, scheduling, or budget-related issues in coordination with clients and the project team, promoting effective communication and collaboration.
  • Assists with contractor selection, bidding support, and preparation of contract documents for water and wastewater utility projects, ensuring compliance and best practices.
  • Oversees construction administration tasks, including responding to contractor inquiries, issuing addenda, conducting field observations, and recommending change orders, ensuring smooth project execution.
  • Develops detailed cost estimates, engineering service proposals, and project schedules for new opportunities in the water/wastewater utility market, driving business growth and revenue.
  • Serves as the technical lead for assigned civil/environmental infrastructure projects, or leads smaller, specialized water/wastewater projects, demonstrating technical expertise and leadership skills.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, with a strong academic record and relevant coursework.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in one or more states where our organization operates, or ability to obtain within 6 months, ensuring compliance with industry regulations.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in water and wastewater system design, including pipelines, treatment plants, pump stations, and related utility infrastructure, with a proven track record of delivering complex projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop construction documents, manage technical tasks, and support or lead projects through all phases—from planning and permitting to construction administration, ensuring quality outcomes and client satisfaction.
  • Proficiency in engineering software, modeling tools, and technical equipment used in municipal water/wastewater engineering, with a strong understanding of industry standards and best practices.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including experience writing technical reports, regulatory submittals, and proposals, with a focus on clear and concise communication.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel for project-related site visits and client meetings, ensuring effective collaboration and project delivery.
