Lead Risk Specialist
Job DescriptionWe are seeking a skilled Lead Risk Specialist to support the development of risk management practices and strengthen risk culture across the organisation. As a key member of the team, you will work closely with stakeholders to identify, assess, and manage risks, ensuring that our business operations align with strategic objectives.
Key Responsibilities:- Promote a strong risk culture by fostering awareness and encouraging leaders and team members to take proactive ownership of risks and mitigating controls.
- Support the identification, assessment, and management of risks and controls to help departments achieve their business objectives effectively.
- Assist in the development of robust internal controls to mitigate material risk exposures, and support control owners in the ongoing testing of key controls.
- Monitor and report on the effectiveness of risk management practices, escalating gaps and concerns to senior management as appropriate.
- Provide advice on risk incidents, including assessment, root cause analysis, and remediation planning.
- Support the accurate identification, logging, and management of risks, controls, issues, and incidents within the risk management system, ensuring adherence to quality standards.
- Maintain the integrity of risk data by overseeing data hygiene and reporting within the organisation's risk management system.
- Contribute to a community of practice, sharing insights and best practices to enhance consistency and deepen understanding of risk management across the organisation.
- Collaborate with the Enterprise Risk and Compliance Team to deliver integrated assurance to the Governance Board and Board Audit & Risk Committee.
- 5+ years in a Line 1 or Line 2 operational risk and compliance role, ideally experience in public policy or in a regulatory agency.
- Demonstrated experience supporting the learning and development of business stakeholders in practical risk management.
- Ability to apply skills and experience to the management of risks in a policy environment.
- Demonstrated ability in supporting a business to strengthen risk culture and risk management practices.
- Experience in design, build, and implementation of risk and compliance frameworks, coaching, and training.
- Understanding of enterprise-wide risk and compliance management frameworks, policies, and standards.
- Experience in uplifting operational resilience and implementing operational risk management standards in an APRA-regulated organisation is highly desirable.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in economics, finance, risk, compliance, or related discipline, or equivalent experience.
- Demonstrated negotiation and resolution management skills.
