Job Overview:

Steel production relies heavily on steelmaking coal, a vital ingredient used to manufacture steel for critical infrastructure and buildings worldwide.

As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in designing underground pillar systems and ground support for critical excavations, conducting medium to long-term geotechnical assessments, and participating in the monthly integrated planning process.

Additionally, you will conduct routine strata management reviews/audits, assist sites with developing operational plans when mining through complex geological structures, and engage in continuous improvement of geotechnical practices.

  • Design of underground pillar systems and ground support for critical excavations
  • Conduct medium to long-term geotechnical assessments and participation in the monthly integrated planning process
  • Ensure post-implementation reviews/panel reconciliations are undertaken to validate design methodologies and design input parameters
  • Peer reviews of underground geotechnical designs
  • Conduct routine Strata management reviews/Audits in the underground operations
  • Assist sites with developing operational plans when mining through complex geological structures with the aim of reducing the geotechnical risk
  • Conduct routine site visits and underground workplace inspections in all underground operations to ensure strata management plans are implemented to a high standard
  • Assist sites with mentoring and coaching of Geotechnical professionals, guidance for geotechnical problem solving, and health of discipline
  • Assist with geotechnical standardisation process across the underground operations
  • Engage in continuous improvement of geotechnical practices, and new initiatives and implementation in the underground environment

Requirements:

- Degree in Mining Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering or similar

- Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ) or be eligible for RPEQ

- Extensive experience in underground mining operations

- Diverse experience across commodities and mining methods (added advantage)

- Understanding of basic financial metrics and budgeting tools

- Demonstrated experience in risk management techniques and critical controls

- Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills
