About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Scientist to contribute to the development of cutting-edge quantum magnetometers that operate reliably in harsh environments. You will collaborate with experts in quantum sensing to design, develop, test, and characterise state-of-the-art magnetometers and auxiliary hardware addressing pressing challenges in positioning, geophysical surveying, and magnetic anomaly detection.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Join a dynamic team focused on advancing quantum sensing for aerospace, defence, exploration, and Earth observation.
  • Develop innovative quantum magnetometry and auxiliary hardware with Research Engineering, Software Engineering, Hardware Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering teams.
  • Design, develop, test, and characterise sensor modifications for improved performance.
  • Collaborate with technical leadership to execute hardware and capability development programmes.
  • Liaise with partners for new business and product development.
  • Share results through presentations and written outlets.
  • Other duties within skills and experience.
Ideal Qualifications:
  • PhD in atomic, molecular, and optical physics or related discipline.
  • Experience working with quantum sensor hardware (lasers, optics, electro-optical systems).
  • Atomic sensor design, construction, operation, and characterisation expertise.
  • Python proficiency for numerical simulations, data logging, and analysis.
  • Effective communication of technical results.
Favourable Skills/Experience:
  • Quantum magnetometer experience using alkali vapour cells.
  • Field trial deployment experience.
  • Interdisciplinary collaboration with R&D scientists and engineers.
