**Strategic Data Analyst Role**This is an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Strategic Data Analyst. As a key member of the Intel Analytics and AML Reporting team, you will play a critical role in driving business success through data-driven insights.The successful candidate will have a strong background in data analysis and interpretation, with the ability to design, test, and deploy rules and machine learning models to identify and mitigate fraudulent activity occurring using Westpac Group products.You will be responsible for analysing past data as well as new trends in suspicious customer activity to mitigate such risks using the power of code and critical thinking.Key Responsibilities:
  • Analyse and interrogate data to support and create fraud detection of money muling and crime syndicates.
  • Identify emerging fraud trends.
  • Make continual improvements to detection system rules.
  • Maintain and create internal automated reporting through dashboard and website creation.
  • Become an expert in payment systems and processes.
About You:To succeed in this role, you will need:
  • A tertiary qualification in relevant disciplines such as Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science or Econometrics etc.
  • Technical knowledge in SQL/Python/R or other programming languages used to interrogate and manipulate large data sets and fit statistical models.
  • Stakeholder management skills with ability to engage with and influence non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience or keen interest in playing games such as strategy board games or chess is advantageous as these display similar thought processes to fraud detection.
