This role is responsible for leading and managing field quality assurance and engineering activities for Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects. The successful candidate will ensure that all field engineering and quality processes are executed efficiently, meet regulatory and safety standards, and align with the project's and company's goals.
Main Responsibilities- Develop Quality Assurance Plans
The Field Engineer will develop and implement field quality assurance plans, procedures, and standards to ensure project compliance with industry regulations or best practices.
Conduct Field InspectionsThe Field Engineer will conduct field inspections and audits to monitor the quality of work performed by field teams, subcontractors, and suppliers. All equipment and materials delivered to site must be inspected and documented.
Identify and Resolve Quality IssuesThe Field Engineer will identify and resolve quality issues by coordinating with engineering and field teams to implement corrective actions.
Amend Quality Control ProcessesThe Field Engineer will amend quality control processes as required to respond to changes in specifications and/or drawings that may arise. Inspection and test plans must be adjusted to suit.
Review Project Quality RecordsThe Field Engineer will review and maintain project quality records.
Monitor Supplier PerformanceThe Field Engineer will monitor supplier quality performance and make recommendations to senior leadership for actions regarding underperforming suppliers.
Assist with Quality TrialsThe Field Engineer will assist in the preparation and conduct of any quality trials and prepare associated records, procedures, and registers.
Oversee Non-Destructive Test ProceduresThe Field Engineer will oversee the development and approval of non-destructive test procedures by subcontractors and maintain records.
Participate in Tender AssessmentsThe Field Engineer will participate in the assessment of tenders submitted by contractors and other suppliers and their ability to comply with the quality conditions outlined in the contract and prequalification requirements.
Review Client SpecificationsThe Field Engineer will undertake technical review of client specifications with respect to quality control issues and make recommendations as required.
Develop Inspection and Test PlansThe Field Engineer will develop inspection and test plans (ITPs) ensuring they meet head contract requirements.
Manage Field Inspection ActivitiesThe Field Engineer will manage field inspection activities.
Internal Reviews and AuditsThe Field Engineer will undertake internal reviews of quality control areas on the project and develop and manage project quality audit schedules.
Implement Data Collection ProcessesThe Field Engineer will implement data collection processes including manual and electronic systems.
Prepare ProceduresThe Field Engineer will prepare procedures as necessary.
Control QC InstrumentsThe Field Engineer will control the issue and recovery of all quality control instruments on the project.
Maintain Instrument RegistersThe Field Engineer will maintain a register of quality control instruments including calibration status.
Lead Design and Engineering Issue ResolutionThe Field Engineer will lead efforts to address design or engineering issues identified during project construction and commissioning phases.
Collaborate with Project TeamsThe Field Engineer will collaborate with project management, design, and product teams to ensure that field engineering solutions are practical, cost-effective, and meet customer requirements.
Review Field Engineering PlansThe Field Engineer will review and approve field engineering plans, designs, and specifications to ensure compliance with project requirements and quality standards.
Oversee Field ProjectsThe Field Engineer will oversee field projects from initiation to completion, ensuring that they are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
Coordinate with Project ManagersThe Field Engineer will coordinate with project managers, contractors, and suppliers to ensure seamless execution of field activities.
Monitor Project ProgressThe Field Engineer will monitor project progress and prepare regular reports for senior management, highlighting any risks or issues.
Ensure Safety ComplianceThe Field Engineer will ensure that all field operations adhere to safety regulations and environmental standards.
Conduct Quality AuditsThe Field Engineer will conduct quality audits (e.g., ISO 9001) and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and implement preventive measures.
Stay Updated with Industry StandardsThe Field Engineer will stay updated with industry standards, regulations, and best practices, ensuring that the company remains compliant.
Serve as Quality Point of ContactThe Field Engineer will serve as the point of contact for clients, vendors, and internal stakeholders regarding field quality and engineering matters.
Provide Technical SupportThe Field Engineer will provide technical support and expertise to customers, addressing any concerns related to quality or field performance.
Identify Opportunities for ImprovementThe Field Engineer will identify opportunities for process improvement in field operations and engineering practices.
Lead Productivity and Cost Improvement InitiativesThe Field Engineer will lead initiatives to enhance productivity, reduce costs, and improve the quality of construction and field testing.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
The Field Engineer should hold a Bachelor's degree in Engineering (e.g., Electrical or Civil) or equivalent experience.
Engineering ExperienceThe Field Engineer should have at least 3 years of experience in engineering, quality assurance, or project management, with at least 1 year of PV or BESS project experience preferred.
Quality Assurance KnowledgeThe Field Engineer should have deep knowledge of quality assurance methodologies, engineering standards, and industry regulations.
Project Management SkillsThe Field Engineer should have proven experience in managing field operations.
Quality CertificationsCertification in quality management (e.g., Six Sigma, ISO 9001) is a plus.
ISO 9001 Awareness and ImplementationISO 9001 awareness and implementation experience is desirable.
Excellent Auditing SkillsThe Field Engineer should have excellent auditing skills and formal audit qualification.
Previous Audit ExperiencePrevious experience or exposure to the ISO 9001 accreditation processes is advantageous.
Construction Safety KnowledgeThe Field Engineer should have working knowledge of construction safety digital platforms (e.g., Procore).
White CardA White card is essential.
Communication and People SkillsThe Field Engineer should have excellent communication, people skills, and emotional intelligence.
Organizational SkillsThe Field Engineer should have organization skills, attention to detail, and a desire for efficiency.
Technical ExpertiseThe Field Engineer should have in-depth knowledge of engineering principles relevant to BESS projects, field operations, and quality assurance practices.
Problem-Solving SkillsThe Field Engineer should be able to troubleshoot and resolve complex issues in the field.
Document Control SkillsThe Field Engineer should have experience in document control processes and procedures.
Flexibility and InitiativeThe Field Engineer should be comfortable working flexible hours, including weekends or holidays, if required.
Comfortable in Fast-Paced EnvironmentsThe Field Engineer should be comfortable working in fast-paced, rapid-growth environments.
