Job Overview

The role of a Child Protection Counsellor is to provide specialist therapeutic and case management services to children, young people, and their carers who have experienced physical abuse, emotional abuse, domestic violence, or neglect.

The Child Protection Counselling Service (CPCS) offers an integrated tertiary level response to individuals affected by child protection. As a key member of the CPCS team, you will work collaboratively with professionals, communities, and stakeholders to deliver comprehensive support services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide specialist therapeutic and case management services to children, young people, and their carers
  • Work effectively in an interagency environment using strong advocacy, negotiation, and problem-solving skills
  • Build networks with key stakeholders and plan, deliver, and coordinate patient care
  • Participate in the 24-hour On Call Service
Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need to possess relevant tertiary qualifications and experience as per clinical discipline. This includes:

  • Consistently demonstrating behaviors that reinforce the CORE Values of our organization; Collaboration, Openness, Respect, and Empowerment
  • Demonstrating these behaviors with all stakeholders; colleagues, direct reports, patients, and consumers, and those that care for them
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and experience as per clinical discipline
  • Full AHPRA registration or a Social Worker eligible for membership of AASW
  • Allied Health Professionals will need minimum experience as a Level 2
  • Clinical Psychologist must hold a Masters degree or higher
  • Senior Psychologist must have completed no less than 12 months service at the 9th year of service as a Psychologist
  • Demonstrated extensive understanding of the dynamics of complex trauma and effects of physical abuse, emotional abuse, neglect, and domestic violence and best practice models for working with children, young people, and adults who have experienced abuse and/or trauma
