We are a not-for-profit community-based organization delivering innovative legal services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients in Queensland. With 50 years of experience, we have a team of over 300 staff members, including specialists in Through Care services.

Job Description

This part-time fixed-term position is located in Ipswich and will run until June 30th, 2025. As a Civil Lawyer, you will have the opportunity to work closely with our Principal Legal Officer, Director of Law (Civil), and immediate legal team to develop culturally safe resources and practices.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Providing expert casework assistance and information to clients and external stakeholders;
  • Developing, using, and evaluating culturally safe resources and practices for the delivery of effective legal services;
  • Improving the health and well-being of clients through the Health Justice Partnership;
  • Achieving better justice and health outcomes for patients of Kambu's clinics at Ipswich and Laidley;
  • Improving understanding and awareness among staff from ATSILS and Kambu about health and legal issues, and the intersectionality of both experienced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples;
  • Improving referral processes to make services more accessible to clients with health and legal needs.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need to possess the following skills and qualifications:

  • Admission as a Legal Practitioner within the State of Queensland or holder of (or eligibility for immediate acquisition of) a current Practising Certificate;
  • Qualifications in law and relevant experience in high-level client services in Civil Law proceedings;
  • Sound interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to compassionately convey sound information or advice to clients;
  • An in-depth working knowledge of key legislation, practices, and procedures across a range of legislation;
  • The ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and communicate effectively with clients, colleagues, and other stakeholders.

Salary: $80,000 - $110,000 per annum, depending on experience.
