Food Safety and Quality Assurance Role

This position plays a key role in ensuring the food safety and quality standards of our organisation. As a Food Safety and Quality Assurance Manager, you will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the team and coordinating the food safety and quality systems.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring site food safety and quality outcomes meet legislative requirements, customer standards, and internal quality systems;
  • Managing, leading, coaching, and nurturing the Food Safety and Quality team;
  • Promoting a strong food safety culture onsite with full implementation of all corporate expectations;
  • Assessing and communicating risks in food safety and quality;
  • Continued minimisation and mitigation of risk through risk-based decision making and analysis;
  • Implementing Continuous Improvement Initiatives and supporting Change Management initiatives on site for food safety and quality perspective;
  • Ensuring a working knowledge and implementation of the Food Safety and Quality Management System on a day-to-day basis;
  • Verifying that Food Safety and Quality standards, parameters, and specifications are provided to production staff;
  • Assisting with onsite visits with major customers;
  • Being an auditee as required for site audits;
  • Coordinating and signing off on customer/consumer complaints as required;
  • Contribute to the internal audit programme ensuring robustness, preventing, and escalating risks.

The ideal candidate will have extensive people management and leadership experience at senior level, ideally in animal protein, and be looking to expand and develop their experience and opportunities working in a multi-discipline operation.

Required skills and qualifications include:

  • Tertiary qualification in Food science Biotechnology or similar industry experience/qualification;
  • Excellent working knowledge of HACCP, and Quality/Risk Management Programmes;
  • Extensive and relevant industry experience 10+ years/qualification preferably a range of animal protein experience;
  • Understanding of how supplier raw material performance can affect outcomes;
  • Ability to develop and maintain food safety and quality systems;
  • Extensive People Management and Leadership Experience in senior role;
  • Extensive Experience in Managing External/Customer Audits;
  • Ability to analyse and present data in a professional manner;
  • Experience influencing developing and teaching others;
  • Good oral and written communication and people skills;
  • Experience in building strong teams;
  • Business and Commercial Acumen;
  • Well organised and able to work to agreed timelines with minimal supervision;
  • Ability to understand risk and opportunity as it applies not just to Food Safety and Quality but to wider business;
  • Data Analysis and Presentation Skills.
