About the Role

The Queensland Department of Education is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Deputy Principal to lead the development of school to employment pathways in three discrete communities. This is a unique opportunity to make a significant impact on the education and career prospects of students in these communities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop a Comprehensive Plan: Create a tailored plan for school to employment pathways in each of the discrete communities, taking into account the unique needs and challenges of each location.
  • Promote and Source VET Providers: Actively promote and source Vocational Education and Training (VET) providers to deliver programs in the discrete communities, ensuring that students have access to high-quality training and education.
  • Develop Senior Secondary Systems: Develop and implement senior secondary systems that enable compliance with the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority (QCAA) and VET programs, ensuring that students have access to a range of educational pathways.
  • Work Experience Systems: Develop and implement work experience systems for each of the schools, providing students with opportunities to gain practical work experience and develop their employability skills.
  • QCAA Compliance: Ensure that all senior secondary programs are compliant with QCAA requirements, including the delivery of Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) and Queensland Certificate of Individual Achievement (QCIA).
  • VET in Schools: Provide VET programs in schools, ensuring that students have access to high-quality training and education that prepares them for the workforce.
  • Senior Secondary Technical Expertise: Provide technical expertise to principals, deputy principals, and heads of department in each of the schools, ensuring that they have the support and guidance they need to deliver high-quality senior secondary programs.
  • Industry Partnerships: Develop and maintain partnerships with industry groups and organizations, ensuring that students have access to job opportunities and career pathways.
  • External School Partnerships: Develop and maintain partnerships with external schools, including Western Cape College, to ensure that students have access to a range of educational pathways and career opportunities.
  • Tracking Systems: Develop and implement effective tracking systems, including case and complex case management, to ensure that students are supported and tracked throughout their educational journey.
About the Location

The Deputy Principal will be based at Western Cape College, Weipa Campus, which is located in a remote area of Queensland. The role will require travel to Kowanyama, Aurukun, and Lockhart State Schools, which are located in discrete communities with unique cultural and linguistic contexts.

Requirements
  • Leadership Experience: Proven leadership experience in a senior secondary school setting, with a strong track record of developing and implementing educational programs.
  • Industry Knowledge: Strong knowledge of industry trends and developments, with the ability to develop and maintain partnerships with industry groups and organizations.
  • Technical Expertise: Strong technical expertise in senior secondary education, with the ability to develop and implement programs that meet QCAA requirements.
