Job Overview

The Department of Youth Justice and Victim Support has an exciting opportunity to join our Strategy and Policy team where you will play a key role in keeping Queensland communities safe.

Our team is responsible for leading major strategy, policy and legislative reforms that addresses offending behaviour and delivers better services to children, young people, and families in Queensland.

We do this by providing early intervention, statutory Youth Justice, and detention services to ensure that young people are held accountable for their offending behaviour. We help support them to become responsible members of the community.

Additionally, we provide trauma-informed support and resources to victims to ensure they can recover and heal, whilst ensuring the voices and experiences of victims are heard and respected.

Our programs and community partnerships preserve cultural connections for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to achieve positive life outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

As Director, you will specifically:

  • Demonstrate cultural capability and/or a commitment to developing cultural capability to ensure an inclusive culture that aligns with the Human Rights Act 2019.
  • Identify, research, develop and analyse complex policy options and provide high level policy and legislative advice to senior executives.
  • Prepare papers, submissions, briefs, memoranda and letters on complex policy and strategic issues.
  • Contribute to a dynamic and creative team environment focused on generating and actioning innovative ideas.
  • Represent the department at a senior level as required, including at interdepartmental and intergovernmental meetings.
  • Manage human, financial and operational resources to ensure achievement of strategic objectives.
  • Develop and advise on strategic directions and planning priorities.
